Thanks for your feedback. How satisfied are you with this reply? Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. In reply to Davy-Delliott's post on October 13, I was having no success trying to do an in-place upgrade from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro.
I was using the upgrade method to avoid needing to reload my software and most importantly take advantage of the free upgrade for activation of Windows I was having no success with the In-place Upgrade so I decided I would need to do a clean install to get Windows 10 installed and activated. So I tried the clean install and was asked to enter a Windows 10 Key. Since I was taking advantage of the free upgrade I didn't have a Windows 10 Key.
I called Microsoft who confirmed that if I didn't enter a Key I would end up with an inactivated Windows 10 install which would expire in 30 days.
Microsoft then remoted into my Windows 7 system and tried to do the upgrade. Their effort ending in the same failure that I had been getting. The upgrade always looked like it was going to work but reboot always failed and returned the system back to Windows 7. Therefore, I was left with no way to upgrade or clean install Windows 10 to get the free Windows Using the Windows 7 or Windows 8 key is what I thought Microsoft should have offered all along.
After all, if you are a valid Windows 7 or Windows 8 user with a valid key why not be able to use your Key to activate the Windows 10 free offer. The install went clean and quick and booted right up into an Activated Windows 10 install. However, there is one thing I'm still not clear on. This being the case, in the lower right corner of the screen is the watermark "Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview Evaluation Copy build ". And after that I have to do what? Buy legit version? My trail version just stops working?
All of the files I gor on PC can't be accessed till I buy it? That last one is never an option with Windows. Even a pirated version you still have access to your files, you just can't access the internet.
But no, once the Insider program ends, if it does, you'll have to activate using a new or existing key. Thats just the expiration date for this specific build guys, calm down and relax. Subsequent builds will have later dates. Keep up to date with builds as they're released and it'll never expire. Until they decide to end the Insider program of course, at which point you'd have to switch to an official non-insider build, for which I'm sure Microsoft would provide guidance.
Microsoft doesn't want its Windows 10 brand associated with crashy software I don't even realize that there is a watermark LOL Do I need to remind anyone about KMSpiko? Keep it secret bro. Please share wallpaper :. Very useful!! Thanx for the tip!!!
This is a real problem?? Is it stable enough for everyday usage? I don't mind using beta software but my PC OS should be as stable as possible, are there any major bugs?
There are always bugs. If you dont want them dont use pre release or any computer os. Bugs are everywhere. In my experience teh Insider versions have been stable for the last 6 months or more.
No major issues other than a few apps, like Calendar, not behaving well. I won't do this. I wear my badge proudly on every screen shot i take!!!
I have no problem with watermarks. But I will try it just once for sure. What if I want to just remove that Evaluation Copy and keep just the build number and the version watermarks?
I mean I am a regular license holder. Why is it a big deal that there are watermarks?! Not sure it's a big deal, just some people prefer to not have it. If you enrole to the insiders part of Windows 10 from a full version of windows, do you get the watermark?
